Joelle Smith
Alfalfa, Oregon

Joelle spent her mornings with her horses; she painted in the afternoons and evenings.
The horses came first in her life just as they came first in her daily schedule.

Her favorite subject was horses, and these she painted with true passion. "The art comes                           from the horses," she explained. The love of horses was always there and so was the art,
                          but the horses came first."

She worked in watercolor exclusively for over 20 years, oils for 8 years and in
bronze for 3 years. She also worked in leather and was proud of the two saddles she
made soon after graduating from Southern Oregon State College.

Articles about Joelle appeared in Southwest Art, Art of the West, Western Horseman,
but her proudest achievements were having her paintings on three Western Horseman
Covers and being accepted into the 2006 Prix de West at the National Cowboy and
                           Western Heritage Museum.

Her paintings are records of contemporary Western life, her legacy to future generations.
